Aaron and Wilson race the 70/48!

The Seventy48 is one of the Northwest's most epic paddling races.  It starts in the port of Tacoma and finishes at Port Townsend.  Aaron and buddy Wilson entered with a double surfski this year.  They ended up 3rd overall and 1st surfski team! Two fast rowing shells in 1st & 2nd. Another fast three man surfski unfortunately had navigation issues in the dark and fog and ended up in the shipping lanes which is an automatic DQ.

Before the start:

The start of the race!

Deep Canyon Rangers

We all went to see the Deep Canyon Rangers the first night we were in Charleston.  They were all really great musicians.

Hanging out in the back yard.

Grandpa Small and Steve on the Stalnaker's dock.

Beach Yoga

Sister Sheryl took Cynthia to do a beach yoga session.  Dolphins were doing dolphin yoga in the channel at the same time.

One of favorite runs in Charleston goes out to the end of the Shem Creek pier:

Took an EFoil lesson in Charleston since we ended up stuck there for a couple of extra days due to a flight cancellation.  Standing up wasn't too hard after a bit of a learning curve; getting up on the foil was a little tougher.  Was starting to get a feel for it when we ran out of time.  I think one more session would do it.  A few selections mostly from the blooper reel (I think there were a few times when I was actually on the foil for a bit that didn't end up on video):

Took niece Roxy for a walk on the Sullivan's Island beach.  Dogs are allowed off leash until 10 AM.  Lots of dog socializing going on.

Grandpa Small hits the big 90!

End of another day at Camp Breezy Point.

Christmas 2019

The highlight, or lowlight, of our trip to Ashland was a blowout in the fast lane next to a semi truck.  We managed to get the car off the road and had to figure out where the spare was, which involved taking out, on a windy day with temps in the 30s, all the luggage we had packed.  We made it to a Les Schwab, and because my Sorrento is AWD, ended up with a whole new set of tires.  Other than that we had a good trip.

Aaron and Dad on Lake Washington

Aaron and Dad did a few of the Sound Rowers (http://www.soundrowers.org) distance races this year including the Mercer Island Sausage Fest (they serve sausages at the end of the race).  Aaron did the 13.1 mile distance race, which went all the way around Mercer Island, and was 2nd in the HPK (surfski) category behind 2 time Olympic gold medalist Greg Barton.  Dad did the short course against not as much competion and was first in the HPK division.

New Water Heater

Our water heater at Breezy Point finally died and we had to get a new one.  The only interesting thing about that is that our plumber, who has been in the business for a while, is pretty sure it's the oldest water heater he's ever replaced.  It has a date from the 1950s on it and a Sears Roebuck placard.
